The safety and well-being of our community is our highest priority. Our goal is to cultivate a safe, secure, nurturing, and prepared school community where everyone feels protected and supported.

We believe that safety is not a single policy or procedure—it is a shared responsibility built on strong relationships, thoughtful planning, and proactive preparation.
Our approach integrates physical security, emotional well-being, and community partnership to create a culture of care. This prevention-focused approach includes preparation, training, communication, and continuous improvement.

Comprehensive Crisis Response Plan follows I Love You Guys / Standard Response Protocol
Emergency drills conducted in developmentally appropriate ways on a regularly scheduled basis
Close relationships with local emergency responders, including the Salt Lake City Police and Fire departments

At McGillis, we want our school to be a place where every child and adult can be themselves, where they belong and feel included. Nothing is more important to us than helping every individual feel seen, heard, and valued.

Our six values guide us in how we interact with one another on a daily basis, and they inform our policies and procedures to ensure that McGillis is a safe space for all.

As a school community, we are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion; anti-racism; non-discrimination; and fighting antisemitism. Additionally, our policies and procedures that help safeguard social-emotional safety are codified in our Employee Handbook, Student & Family Handbook, and Child Safety & Wellness Handbook.

Additionally, Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curricula and vocabulary is woven into daily programming in all divisions.
