We’re Off to a Great Start!

We’re Off to a Great Start!

Just like that, we’re already three weeks into the school year! It has been such a joy to have our Magpies back in the building. Their energy is contagious and it’s wonderful to return to a bit of pre-COVID normalcy and see so many smiles that have been hidden behind masks for two years.

In Case You Missed It…

Back to School Videos

Some beloved Magpies shared what they’re most looking forward to this year.

We had a great first day of school, complete with one of the most anticipated activities for students: eating in the Dining Hall.

New Magpies

We have new faces at McGillis this year on faculty and staff! You can meet them here, and you can also follow along on our social media channels for weekly Friday Features highlighting each of them. Get caught up on our two Friday Features so far: Erik Garabaya Casado and Kimberly Dean.

TLC Settles In

By now, you’ve probably noticed our colorful modular classroom on the west end of our parking lot! Four beautiful classrooms are home to 30 TLC students, who are finding themselves right at home in the new space.

All-School Shabbats Return

It was a true joy to gather as an entire school for our first Shabbat of the school year on Friday, September 2. Learn more about this year’s Shabbat schedule here.

Don’t Miss Coffee Klatch!

For the first time in over two years, our community gathered indoors for Coffee Klatch on Friday, September 14! These mornings are the perfect opportunity to share time with other parents, McGillis faculty and staff, and enjoy Ms. Bridget’s baked goods.

Save the date for our next Klatch on Friday, October 21.

Busy Back to School Night

Another first for the 2022/23 school year: Our first in-person Back to School night since Fall of 2019. Head of School Jim Brewer kicked off the evening with remarks welcoming parents and guardians back into the building, and shared his vision for how McGillis Is Taking Flight - our theme for this year. A critical part of looking ahead to our school’s next 30 years is the Campus Master Plan process, which kicked off in May 2022 - learn more about that here.

We also celebrated the recipient of the 2022 Robert Norris Award: our drama teacher, Karen Nielsen-Anson! Read the directors’ remarks about Karen and see video from the announcement here.

Looking Ahead

We’re especially excited about our first ever Magpie Market on Saturday, October 8! You should have received an email with details on Wednesday, September 7, and you can check out more details on our post here. If you can contribute or have questions, email Steph Duffy:

Be sure to read your Magpie Messenger every week for weekly need-to-know information, including upcoming events on the Community Calendar.

Here’s to a great year, Magpies!
