It was one year ago, when our liveswere abruptly disrupted and turned upside down. A disruption that we had no idea of its force or duration. Our “normal” suddenly vanished and has yet to return. We were all impacted, not only as members of our school community, but in our individual professions and lives.

It became real very quickly.

While we remain diligent in our efforts to further mitigate the spread of the virus, the weeks ahead mark an important time for us to reflect on the challenges we’ve experienced this past year, to express gratitude for those who have turned tragedy into triumph, and to recognize the opportunity and promise of tomorrow.

HEARTACHE

Over the course of this pandemic, we’ve experienced and witnessed heartache. We’ve all been impacted by the pandemic either by illness or loss -- and possibly both. Our thoughts for a swift recovery go to everyone who is recovering from illness and our hearts are with those that have lost someone or something -- jobs, homes, businesses, experiences, connections, and shared moments.

HEROES

We recognize and appreciate the heroic efforts made by many --  first responders, health care workers, and the countless unseen heroes.

And through all of this rapid change, our students have demonstrated resilience and adapted to new ways of learning, our teachers have embraced challenges and reimagined teaching, and our parents have shown unwavering support and commitment.

We are grateful.

HOPE

We remain hopeful and optimistic of the year ahead as strides are being made daily towards tackling the challenges of the pandemic. The strength, connection, and commitment of the McGillis community have enabled us to persevere through these unprecedented times.

Thank you to each and every one of you who have lifted our spirits this year, our friends and family who have supported us, and our school community members who have inspired us.

Together we can.
