Growing up in Bend, Oregon, I was fortunate to have outdoor recreation opportunities in my backyard. Our family vacations consisted of camping, hiking, riding bikes, boating, and visiting beautiful alpine lakes or high desert locations. I attended college at the University of Redlands in California where I eventually found my niche helping create the school's Outdoor Program. Missing the mountains led me to Salt Lake City, where I moved in 2009. To work in my current role at McGillis is truly a dream come true. When I was a student in 4th-6th grades, I learned how to ski and snowboard when our school bused us up to the resort for 3 weeks in a row. Now I get to facilitate that experience for our students in WOW! As a teen and young college student, I always felt more confident and engaged in an outdoor classroom. Now I get to teach Outdoor Environmental Education at McGillis. Before arriving at McGillis, I worked in the field of outdoor education with children and young adults for over a decade. I care deeply about educating and creating future stewards of our environment. I hope to help students gain confidence, independence, and a sense of awe through the McGillis OEE program. In my free time, I enjoy skiing, mountain biking, white water rafting, baking desserts, traveling, and enjoying beautiful outdoor places!
How are you reimagining learning?
I am thrilled that students will have more time in OEE this school year across K-8 grade levels. I am excited for students to see how the outdoors can support their wellness during difficult and happy times, and come to their own conclusions about why they want to take care of the environment.
I am currently reading:
The Outsiders by S. E. Hinton (for McGillis middle school book club!)
Which McGillis value do you most appreciate?
Derech Eretz, Respect for all people and beliefs: If our students learn nothing else at McGillis than this value, they will make our world a better place!

Favorite McGillis tradition:
Favorite McGillis moment:
Watching our students on the mountain bike team cross the finish line at the races with big smiles on their faces.
What is your superpower?
