Reading Interventionist: Lower School
The McGillis School, an established, independent K-8 school in Salt Lake City, Utah has an opening for a full-time Reading Interventionist teacher in our Lower School beginning as soon as possible.

Position Description
The role of a Lower School Reading Interventionist is to provide Tier 2 reading interventions and to collect data for identified students. Reading Intervention is based in the Science of Reading and focuses on systematic and explicit phonics and phonemic awareness instruction. As part of this role, the Reading Interventionist is expected to progress monitor and administer benchmark assessments to students. This position also plays an integral role in facilitating, coaching and collaborating with classroom teachers on best practices of reading instruction.
Reading Intervention Teacher Responsibilities:
● Create and sustain a classroom culture based on the mission and values of the school.
● Demonstrate a commitment to safeguarding children as a priority.
● Plan and teach K-5th grade Reading Intervention groups rooted in the science of reading.
● Implement appropriate progress monitoring based on goals and interventions.
● Create and manage a positive and structured small group environment for learning.
● Participate in Student Support Team meetings regarding planning, student progress, interventions, accommodations, etc.
● Collaborate, coach and consult with classroom teachers on the best practices of reading instruction.
● Supervise recess and lunch according to duty schedules, monitor student safety at all times.
● Attend and participate positively in faculty meetings and school events.
● Fosters professional and clear communication with colleagues.
● Engage in professional development opportunities, as well as in the professional growth model specific to The McGillis School.
● Conduct oneself in a professional manner at all times.
● Participate in co-curricular program opportunities specific to The McGillis School (Family Group, Shabbat, Advisory, etc.)
● Be patient, positive, and find joy in the journey of promoting a lifelong love of learning (limud l’shma).

Substitute Teacher
The McGillis School is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic substitute educators to work with students in grades K to 8 on a per diem basis. Certification and 3-5 years teaching experience preferred. The most desirable candidates will also be able to demonstrate proficiency using digital and online platforms for remote instruction as well as proven effectiveness as a classroom teacher in a brick-and-mortar setting.
Job Responsibilities will include:
- Willing to be contacted for coverage the morning of placement
- Must be able to work the full school day of 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
- Support the teacher by implementing the daily curriculum for assigned grade level
- Create and maintain a positive, structured learning environment
- Collaborate with other teachers to ensure a safe environment for all students
