Bio:

Amberly knew she wanted to be a teacher in the 6th grade. Actually, at that time, she was on the fence between teaching and being a game show hostess. She has always enjoyed the challenge of making content relevant and interesting to students. As it turns out, teaching really isn't that different from gameshow hosting. Between her degree in History Teaching, which qualified her to teach 6-12 grade, and Special Education, which qualified her to teach K-12, Amberly has worked in virtually every grade level throughout her career. She has also worked in various capacities, as a teacher assistant, a one-on-one assistant, a classroom teacher, and in various schools, public and private, and classrooms. As a result, she has a deep understanding of child development and how ages and grades provide general rates of maturity and growth, but it becomes much more nuanced on an individual level. Amberly sees children as individuals and strives to meet their individual emotional, social, and academic needs.

She grew up in Salt Lake City and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area after college where she lived for twelve years. She moved back to Salt Lake ten years ago. Amberly loves our beautiful mountains, four seasons, and many national parks. She has a son entering high school at Midland, a boarding school in California. She loves reading, creating art, and traveling to visit friends across the country.

Which value do you most appreciate?

My favorite McGillis value is Kehilah. We have such a beautifully kind, accepting, open community here. I wish every child and family could experience a kehilah like ours.
