8th Grade OEA - Third Trimester: Outdoor Education

Written by  Jennifer Roddick

Mission Statement:

The focus of the McGillis Outdoor Education program is that of environmental stewardship and outdoor leadership. Students will develop an awareness of self, connection to others, and a respect for the environment. Through service opportunities and outdoor adventures participants prepare for a lifetime of enjoyable, safe, and purposeful outdoor experiences. The program challenges students to reach beyond their comfort zone, with activities emphasizing self-empowerment, self-reliance, accountability, environmental ethic, leadership, and development of technical skills.

Goal:
To provide our students with wilderness and educational experiences that foster personal growth, enhance leadership, teach wilderness skills, nurture environmental ethic, and develop a passion for wild places.
