Into the Wild

Students have received their copies of Into the Wild. We read two poems by Theodore Roethke called "Night Journey" and "Journey into the Interior" as an introduction to Into the Wild. Our discussion revolved around Idealism--what is good and bad about it--and its connection to American Romanticism and views of the western U.S. We will begin reading and discussing this book after the 8th grade backpacking trip. Students should read chapters 1-2 for the Monday of our return.

Note: Homework may be added or changed during the school week.

Week of May 14-18

Day 1: (8W only) Return True Grit Essays and discuss some of the good and bad arguments we made in these!

Due next week: You should have read chapters 1-2 of Into the Wild. Make any connections you can to our discussions of American Romanticism and the west or to the poems by Roethke!
