English & Language Arts

The McGillis School strives to promote an English and language arts program that gives students the tools to become lifelong, engaged readers who read critically and enjoy reading for both information and entertainment. The curriculum helps students to understand and appreciate both fiction and non-fiction works, and to articulate their understanding of content and express personal connections to all types of literature.

Teachers at The McGillis School work towards creating linguistic thinkers who see relationships between words, and use inquiry to explore and appreciate the structure and etymology of the English language. Curriculum has been developed that creates opportunities for students to develop writing and editing skills and to see writing as both a means of self-expression and communication.
